Michelle Obama launches Global Girls Alliance

Second, we’re working to connect these leaders directly to people like you. We’ve partnered with GoFundMe to create a new social fundraising platform at GlobalGirlsAlliance.org/donate — a place where anyone, anywhere around the world, can support girls in places like India, Guatemala, or Uganda.
We’ve instituted a rigorous process to identify projects that need support, so whether you’re giving a portion of your paycheck or a dollar from a lemonade stand, we don’t take it lightly that you’re donating your hard-earned money to this cause. -Michelle Obama for CNN

“Right now, more than 98 million adolescent girls around the world are not in school. I see myself in these girls. I see my daughters in these girls. I know a lot of you see yourselves and your families in them, too. That’s why today on the International #DayoftheGirl, the @ObamaFoundation is launching the @GlobalGirlsAlliance—a program to empower adolescent girls around the world through education. We believe that change happens from the ground up, so we’re working to support grassroots leaders and to spur action from people like you, all around the world. We can accomplish more together than we can on our own, so I hope you’ll join our alliance—because the future of our world is only as bright as our girls.” – #repost @michelleobama #GlobalGirlsAlliance

In the next decade 600 million girls will start work and 90% of those who live in developing countries will go into informal roles where abuse and exploitation are rampant. The positive impact that girls education and empowerment have on our economy, security and climate cannot be overstated. I’m glad @lewishowes and I got to talk about the importance of girls’ leadership and inclusion and what that means for societies now and in the long-term (and how we can, as individuals, make it happen!). I’m also glad that the @malalafund has released an incredible study, #fullforce, which draws out the importance of girls education as it relates to other key global challenges and opportunities and that the @obamafoundation has launched @globalgirlsalliance. This collective organizing is what we need to ensure every girl, everywhere can be who and what she wants. This #InternationalDayoftheGirl I pledge to continue to advocate for girls, to ensure that girls and young women are afforded equal opportunities and support and to always leverage my own power, platforms and privilege to create space and opportunities for them. What’s your #internationaldayofthegirl pledge? #makeanimpact #youcantbewhatyoucantsee #womenleading #girlsleading #schoolofgreatness #globalgirlsalliance Link for podcast with @lewishowes & @malalafund #FullForce report in stories.

As a mother and grandmother of only boys I have always sought to celebrate and empower the girls in my life & in the world. They are our future and the respect (or lack thereof) we give ALL women is what will create the future world we live in. #GlobalGirlsAlliance Shout out to @live.breathe.yoga.health for this awesome post! ———————————– @Regran_ed from @live.breathe.yoga.health – The Global Girls Alliance, a program of the Obama Foundation, seeks to empower adolescent girls around the world through education.
